While here in Orlando at our NAR Convention, the attitude and spirit of our membership is unprecedented. Even during these difficult times, we always find something to celebrate.
Today at our General Session is a perfect example. Most members attended so that they could hear Lance Armstrong’s inspiring message, or to congratulate the REALTORS® of the Year, however though, it was my privilege to introduce the six recipients of our 2008 Good Neighbor Awards.
Since 2000, when the Good Neighbor Awards began, REALTOR Magazine has named nearly 90 recipients. Those past winners are part of a special group we call the Good Neighbor Society.
As REALTORS, most of us are active in our communities—it’s a terrific way to network in our businesses while also giving back. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved. This year, the winners were especially inspiring by spending an astonishing 8,000 hours volunteering their time last year. At 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, that is two-thirds of the year! Now that is truly amazing!
They’ve also recruited countless volunteers for literally thousands of hours of service. And together, they raised millions of dollars to support their causes.
Our communities are where we draw our strength, support our businesses and raise our families. Our award recipient’s communities are indeed fortunate to have them, however, the entire REALTOR® family benefits as a result of their hard work and good will. — Vicki Cox Golder, 2008 First Vice President
